Cocktail & Pillbox

Cocktail and Pillbox hats are small felt hats without a brim and sometimes with a veil or feathers. They were very popular in the 50s and 60s, partly thanks to icons like Grace Kelly and Jackie Kennedy. They were worn when people went outside, preferably with a matching bag, shoes and gloves. Nowadays they are often worn at weddings, at (horse) races or at a gala. The black variants were made for funerals or mourning (a veil was sewn onto the hat by hand, during the mourning period).
The gven size is not always the exact circumfence, but the headsize for which it is meant (especially the pillbox hats). Because these hats sit on top of the head (sometimes worn more in the neck), they do not have much support on the head itself.  There was often an elastic band that was worn under long hair (at the back of the neck). Otherwise they were attached to shorter hair with a bobby pin or hatpin.

Vintage items have been previously used and may show minor signs of wear (unless stated otherwise). If an item shows noticable damage, this will be clarified in the description and in the photos. All vintage items are dry cleaned and receive the exact measured size from us (regardless of which size is stated inside a hat).
